day nine...

Placemat. Not the first I made, but since I designed them, I figured I could count it if I made one today. And since our dining room is almost "done," it was time I got the rest of these made.

day six...

I can thank the gallons of red and white paint that have been sitting in our kitchen/dining room for the past couple of months for this project. They just made me think of pokeballs. So I got a glass ornament out of my stash and did some dipping. :)

day five...

Totally not loving today's project. Another postcard--they seem to be a go-to project already. But hey, you win some, you lose some, right? And I actually still like the idea--I just don't like how it came out. Maybe I'll play with the whole idea of sticky-notes another time. Or maybe not.

day four...

I'm getting this picture up late, but the project was finished on time. Just barely--at 11:54pm last night. I snapped a couple of quick shots then, but I'd actually like to go take a better photo this morning if I can. If I can get a better shot, I'll add it to this post, but I'm going to leave this one up too as it was actually taken on the day this project was finished.

Since I knew we were going to be out and about much of the day, I just threw some yarn and a crochet hook in a bag to play with in the car. Had no idea what I was going to make until I picked up the yarn and started crocheting.

I have to admit that I'm completely in love with this. And that I'm proud of myself. I'd never tried designing my own amigurumi before, aside from some simple (but adorable) little aliens. So I was thrilled with the way I was able to get the head shaped just like I wanted it. And I love the touch of whimsy of adding the freshly swallowed dinner. :P

Edited to add:

day three...

Probably not the most inspiring create. I can't believe it--it's only day three and I've already had a day where I nearly forget to do this project at all. Spent the day engrossed in homeschool prep, and by the time I remembered "daily creating" I was frankly just mentally exhausted. So a simple project. More postcards. Made from chipboard from food boxes and images cut from junk mail and magazines. Sanded the edges of the "haunted mansion" one. Quick and easy, and fun to mail out.

day two...

My original thought was to go out to the stick pile and play around, maybe spell something out that I could photograph and turn into a greeting card. After some experimenting, I settled for this very simple "HI" as it filled the space better than longer words did. After photographing it, it occurred to me that it would actually make for a nice print to display in our house...so I tried printing it in an 8x10 size on textured cardstock. And I liked it. A quick search through my frame stash yielded this one, still sporting its 25¢ sticker from the thrift store. Still may turn it into greeting cards one day, but for now I'm happy with day two's results. Even more happy with the simple fun this daily creating project is bringing.

day one...

Gotta admit, it feels good to have a day under my belt. Today's creation is a simple little postcard. Made from a piece of chipboard from my stash (I always save chipboard from packaging, the backs of tablets, etc.) Quick snake doodle colored with gel pens.

Unfortunately the photo doesn't do the fun glittery effect of the gel pens justice. It's pretty cute in person though, at least I think so. Hopefully whoever I send it to will think so too.

the challenge...

The challenge being--create something EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. for an entire year.

That's not precisely accurate, I suppose. I am actually challenging myself to finish a creation every single day, but not actually start and finish. Yes, most days will likely see me making some tiny project accomplished in just a single day. But I want to make sure I leave time for the larger projects I'm working on as well--so any time I finish one of these projects I can count that as my project for that day.

I know darn well that everything I create will not be awesome. But that's not the point. The point is to play and have fun and maybe learn something along the way.

*I hope there will be cardstock and paint and yarn and clay and photos and twine and wood and rocks and crayons and fabric and junk mail and cardboard and dozens of other materials in my future.

*I hope I will find inspiration in a multitude of new places.

*I hope the good days will be motivation enough to get me through the harder days, those inevitable days when I just have no creative mojo to draw on.

*I hope that by the end of the year, I can point to a handful of projects that I'm really proud of.

*I hope this challenge leads not only to added joy in my life, but growth as a creative soul as well.

The adventure begins tomorrow...
